It all started with a Tascam 4 track tape machine. A friend of mine who had a really cool band that I was a fan of invited me to his house to show me some demos he had recently recorded. When he hit play on his Tascam Portastudio 4 Track Cassete Recorder I was immediately intrigued. It was amazing to me how he could record a guitar and soon after go back and record a bass and then add a vocal track, mix it all down and have a little song in no time. I was hooked, I knew at that moment that recording is what I wanted to do. Once I gathered enough money to purchase a 4 track along with a condenser mic I began to record my own songs. As I practiced recording different instruments and mixing songs I got better and gained more experience. Soon after I began to record my band and eventually started recording other bands as well. But I quickly realized that I was outgrowing my equipment. Technology was getting better and recording software was becoming more and more popular. It was then that I decided to take my hobby more serious and apply for a degree in Recording Engineering at Musicians Institute in Hollywood.
At MI I gained a lot of new skills and understanding of recording theories and techniques on how to utilize EQ and Compression as well as an in depth knowledge of ProTools recording software Tape Machines and the famed SSL and NEVE Consoles. After graduating from MI in 2002 in my mind I was ready to take over the world. I continued to record bands and eventually started working at an actual recording studio where I learned even more from the in house engineers. I started to realize even though I had recently graduated and thought I knew everything there was to know, there was still so much to learn. In 2006 I started my own production company doing live sound for small to medium sized venues and outdoor concerts. Doing live sound was fun and in many ways different from Studio work because everything happens so fast. After doing numerous shows and a few tours as FOH Engineer I focused on doing studio work instead. Recording songs and creating music with artists was really what fueled my passion. Within these next years I continued to learn from trying new techniques and equipment as well as having the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the industry such as CLA, Andrew Sheps, and JJP. Meeting these amazing engineers was so inspiring and being able to learn things from them was so humbling.
The year is now 2020 and armed with over 18 years experience in Recording, Mixing, Live Sound and Production, I can honestly say that I knew nothing back then. It has taken me many years to reach the level that I am at now and know that this craft is not learned overnight. It takes years to develop your ear and the ability to hear what a song or audio track truly need to sound it’s best. It takes years to understand what a good drum sound is and how to dial in your equipment to get the sounds you hear in your head. The ability to tell if a sound is out of tune or a note is off can only be achieved through experience. And that is exactly what separates the amateur from the Pros, EXPERIENCE!!!
At a time when recording technology is easily accessible and anyone with a computer can record a song and mix or master, what you need for your music to reach its full potential is someone with Experience and Taste to help your music translate to the audience you want to reach. I would love be that the person that takes your ideas and nourishes them from creation to release to the world. Let me use my expertise to help you create the sounds you hear in your head and the songs you were meant to create and share. Use my experience to your benefit and allow me to guide you through the recording process mixing stage and mastering to digital release or physical distribution. I offer many solutions to bring value to your projects and pride myself in creating a great working relationship based on trust.
